Thank you for reading our Weetabix Food Company 2024 Sustainability Report.
As home to some of Britain’s most famous and iconic brands including Weetabix, Weetabix Minis, Alpen, Ready Brek and Weetos we aim to set a high bar for the category through our commitment to British wheat and to tasty, nutritious products. Our ‘Change for Even Better’ strategy continues to make progress, with key sustainability highlights this year including:
Pioneering work with our growers to explore ambitious plans to further reduce the carbon footprint of wheat we use to make Weetabix.
Reductions in energy consumption, material usage and waste across our business, as well as the way in which we operate our factories and choice of packaging.
Ongoing commitments to our colleagues, 74% of whom see us as an inclusive place to work, alongside a focus on future food industry talent.
The 10th anniversary of our partnership with FareShare, which has so far filled over 23 million breakfast bowls for those in need.
These are just the latest steps on our ongoing journey and I am excited to share an update on our progress.
Colm O’Dwyer, Managing Director
In trials, we’ve successfully demonstrated 50% lower carbon emissions relating to the growing of our wheat
100% of our packaging is recyclable
Upgrading our combined heat and power plant means that 85% of the power our factory is now produced on site and we save 5 m litres of water per annum
In our 10 years of working alongside FareShare, we have provided 23 million bowls of healthy, nutritious breakfast
The video shows some of the highlights of our journey so far.
The 100% British wheat used to make Weetabix goes on a journey from field to bowl that has five key stages. We are working steadily to improve the sustainability of each stage.
"Through Change for Even Better, our goal is to provide tasty, nutritious products that nourish the nation. We are committed to doing this in a sustainable way."
2024 marks the fifth year since we formed the Change for Even Better sustainability strategy to draw together our initiatives and ambitions under a clear vision, supported by four key pillars of action – Sourcing Responsibility, Product Responsibility, Operational Responsibility, Social Responsibility.
The different pillars allow greater representation of departments across our company in the work to deliver our strategy. This adds value and ensures our progress is informed by colleagues with a broad range of perspectives.
